Highly Integrated Dc-dc Converters
A monolithically integrated smart rectifier has been presented first in this work. The smart rectifier, which integrates a power MOSFET, gate driver and control circuitry, operates in a self-synchronized fashion based on its drain-source voltage, and does not need external control input. The analysis, simulation, and design considerations are described in detail. A 5V, 5-µm CMOS process was used to fabricate the prototype. Experimental results show that the proposed rectifier functions as expected in the design. Since no dead-time control needs to be used to switch the sync-FET and ctrl-FET, it is expected that the body diode losses can be reduced substantially, compared to the conventional synchronous rectifier. The proposed self-synchronized rectifier (SSR) can be operated at high frequencies and maintains high efficiency over a wide load range. As an example of the smart rectifier\u27s application in isolated DC-DC converter, a synchronous flyback converter with SSR is analyzed, designed and tested. Experimental results show that the operating frequency could be as high as 4MHz and the efficiency could be improved by more than 10% compared to that when a hyper fast diode rectifier is used. Based on a new current-source gate driver scheme, an integrated gate driver for buck converter is also developed in this work by using a 0.35µm CMOS process with optional high voltage (50V) power MOSFET. The integrated gate driver consists both the current-source driver for high-side power MOSFET and low-power driver for low-side power iv MOSFET. Compared with the conventional gate driver circuit, the current-source gate driver can recovery some gate charging energy and reduce switching loss. So the current-source driver (CSD) can be used to improve the efficiency performance in high frequency power converters. This work also presents a new implementation of a power supply in package (PSiP) 5MHz buck converter, which is different from all the prior-of-art PSiP solutions by using a high-Q bondwire inductor. The high-Q bondwire inductor can be manufactured by applying ferrite epoxy to the common bondwire during standard IC packaging process, so the new implementation of PSiP is expected to be a cost-effective way of power supply integration
Application of Weighted Support Vector Machines to Network Intrusion Detection
Support Vector Machines(SVMs) have succeeded in many classification fields. Some researchers have tried to apply SVMs to Intrusion Detection recently and got desirable results. By analyzing C-SVM theoretically and experimentally, we found that C-SVM had some properties which showed C-SVM was not most suitable for Network Intrusion Detection. First, C-SVM has different classification error rates on different classes if the sizes of training classes are uneven. Second, C-SVM is over-dependent on every training sample, even if the samples are duplicated. Third, C-SVM does not make a difference between training samples. According to these characteristics of C-SVM and the fact that the size of network normal data is always much larger than that of intrusion data and the fact that the importance of attack data is different from each other, an extended C-SVM, termed weighted C-SVM is proposed in this paper. Weighed C-SVM introduces two parameters, class weights and sample weights. Class weights are used to adjust false negative rate and false positive rate of each intrusion class. And sample weights are used to emphasize importance of some intrusion samples. Experiments showed that Weighted C-SVM was more effective than C-SVM in network intrusion detection systems
Joint Topic-Semantic-aware Social Recommendation for Online Voting
Online voting is an emerging feature in social networks, in which users can
express their attitudes toward various issues and show their unique interest.
Online voting imposes new challenges on recommendation, because the propagation
of votings heavily depends on the structure of social networks as well as the
content of votings. In this paper, we investigate how to utilize these two
factors in a comprehensive manner when doing voting recommendation. First, due
to the fact that existing text mining methods such as topic model and semantic
model cannot well process the content of votings that is typically short and
ambiguous, we propose a novel Topic-Enhanced Word Embedding (TEWE) method to
learn word and document representation by jointly considering their topics and
semantics. Then we propose our Joint Topic-Semantic-aware social Matrix
Factorization (JTS-MF) model for voting recommendation. JTS-MF model calculates
similarity among users and votings by combining their TEWE representation and
structural information of social networks, and preserves this
topic-semantic-social similarity during matrix factorization. To evaluate the
performance of TEWE representation and JTS-MF model, we conduct extensive
experiments on real online voting dataset. The results prove the efficacy of
our approach against several state-of-the-art baselines.Comment: The 26th ACM International Conference on Information and Knowledge

Load Management in District Heating Operation
Smooth operation of district heating system will avoid installation of expensive peak heat boilers, improve plant partial load performance, increase the system redundancy for further network expansion and improve its resilience to ensure security of supply during severe heating seasons. The peak heating load can be reduced through building demand side management. The building thermal mass can be used to shift the heating supply under the circumstance without jeopardizing the consumer thermal comfort. In this paper, the multi-agent framework is applied to a simplified building dynamic model to regulate the heating supply to a cluster of buildings. The aim is to level out the total heating supply under a reference temperature and meanwhile maintain the consumer thermal comfort

Existence and stability of periodic solutions for a delayed prey–predator model with diffusion effects
Existence and stability of spatially periodic solutions for a delay prey-predator diffusion system are concerned in this work. We obtain that the system can generate the spatially nonhomogeneous periodic solutions when the diffusive rates are suitably small. This result demonstrates that the diffusion plays an important role on deriving the complex spatiotemporal dynamics. Meanwhile, the stability of the spatially periodic solutions is also studied. Finally, in order to verify our theoretical results, some numerical simulations are also included
Phase transition and thermodynamical geometry for Schwarzschild AdS black hole in AdS5 × S5 spacetime
We study thermodynamics and thermodynamic geometry of a five-dimensional
Schwarzschild AdS black hole in spacetime by treating the
cosmological constant as the number of colors in the boundary gauge theory and
its conjugate quantity as the associated chemical potential. It is found that
the chemical potential is always negative in the stable branch of black hole
thermodynamics and it has a chance to be positive, but appears in the unstable
branch. We calculate scalar curvatures of the thermodynamical Weinhold metric,
Ruppeiner metric and Quevedo metric, respectively and we find that the
divergence of scalar curvature is related to the divergence of specific heat
with fixed chemical potential in the Weinhold metric and Ruppeiner metric,
while in the Quevedo metric the divergence of scalar curvature is related to
the divergence of specific heat with fixed number of colors and the vanishing
of the specific heat with fixed chemical potential.Comment: 19pages,9figure
Dietary Anti-Aging Polyphenols and Potential Mechanisms
For years, the consumption of a diet rich in fruits and vegetables has been considered healthy, increasing longevity, and decreasing morbidities. With the assistance of basic research investigating the potential mechanisms, it has become clear that the beneficial effects of plant-based foods are mainly due to the large amount of bioactive phenolic compounds contained. Indeed, substantial dietary intervention studies in humans have supported that the supplementation of polyphenols have various health-promoting effects, especially in the elderly population. In vitro examinations on the anti-aging mechanisms of polyphenols have been widely performed, using different types of natural and synthetic phenolic compounds. The aim of this review is to critically evaluate the experimental evidence demonstrating the beneficial effects of polyphenols on aging-related diseases. We highlight the potential anti-aging mechanisms of polyphenols, including antioxidant signaling, preventing cellular senescence, targeting microRNA, influencing NO bioavailability, and promoting mitochondrial function. While the trends on utilizing polyphenols in preventing aging-related disorders are getting growing attention, we suggest the exploration of the beneficial effects of the combination of multiple polyphenols or polyphenol-rich foods, as this would be more physiologically relevant to daily lif
